Hampton Lake
“It’s all about the water” is the theme of the new John Reed development in Bluffton called Hampton Lake. Located near the junction of U.S. 278 and S.C. 170, this dynamic community includes the only 165-acre freshwater lake in the South Carolina Lowcountry. That equals seven miles of navigable waterways and 15 miles of shoreline. With approximately 345 surrounding acres of nature preserve, which together with the lake create more than 500 acres of open space, an extraordinary nature-friendly environment has been created. If you love to explore the area by foot, there will be approximately
9 miles of hiking and biking trails winding throughout the nature preserves, along waterways and around the perimeter of the community.
Each time we tour the property, we become more smitten with the entire scope of the project. Just think, within less than 30 minutes to the pristine beaches of Hilton Head Island, there is a community that offers residents everything from boating on a private lake to camping out and roasting marshmallows with your children or grandchildren at The Outpost campsite. And a beach – yes, an actual beach has been designed. And then there is Dogpaddle Park, a place devoted to the 4-legged canine members of your family. Along with villas, carriage homes, Carolina lifestyle homes and homes with private boatslips, there is a state-of-the-art spa and fitness center, and a beautiful Clubhouse with restaurants for the casually-minded owners and their guests.
Since the opening of Hampton Lake, more than 324 wooded and water-front homesites have sold, 41 homes have sold and 97 “rooftops” are underway (foundations have been poured). Model homes, built by some of the Lowcountry’s finest builders, are open for interested visitors to preview. Hampton Lake is truly a great community and the word has spread. It is all about the water!
Haig Point on Dafuskie Island
As your boat heads toward Haig Point from the embarkation center on Hilton Head, you are struck with the natural beauty of the surrounding area and the sparkling waters of Calibogue Sound. Out of the trees at Haig Point looms a meticulously restored old lighthouse, now a renovated charming guesthouse for members and their guests. Coming ashore you are immediately struck by how well maintained the island is. Your eye spans spacious, beautifully-groomed gardens, attractive Lowcountry houses and plenty of open spaces.
Haig Point is a residential community with a limit of 725 family homesites, but it’s far from the typical gated golf community. Buyers interested in Dafuskie Island are “usually very interested in privacy, security and natural beauty”, says Tom Jackson, Broker for Gateway Realty in Bluffton. “Haig Point represents a great value in today’s market,” he said, adding that prices on Daufuskie are typically half or less than comparable properties on Hilton Head Island. Members enjoy tennis, golf, beach activities along the three-and-a-half miles of sandy beach and a level of service rarely found in today’s developments, ranging from valets bringing groceries to your kitchen, to a house call from the golf car repairman. The absence of private cars adds to the char of the community ad do the ferries and water taxi services to and from Hilton Head Island.
As we leave Daufuskie Island, it becomes apparent that Haig Point is a way of life. A wonderful way of like. Be sure to take a tour and enjoy the beautiful and serene environment with superb panoramic vistas…..it’s just another piece of our magnificent Lowcountry “paradise”.
